Who is responsible

The Brass Ladle isn’t a real restaurant: this is a demo menu that shows how BennyEats works. It is run by Sangeevan Sivathas, who is responsible for the information described on this page. Email: hello@bennyeats.co.uk.

Sending you the page

Like any website, our host, Cloudflare, receives your phone’s IP address and the technical details every browser sends (such as the browser type), so that it can send you the page, count a dish view, list add or rating, and protect the menu from attack. We rely on our legitimate interests in running a working, secure menu (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). We keep no logs of these details. Cloudflare handles them for us under a contract, and keeps them only for as long as it needs to deliver and protect the service. Cloudflare, Inc. is based in the United States. Transfers there are covered by the UK–US data bridge (the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework).

What we count

This menu doesn’t count visits, list adds or ratings at all.

My list

“Add to my list” saves dishes in a list on this phone, so you can show it to your server. The list stays on your phone only: we never receive it, and neither does The Brass Ladle. It goes when you close this tab (some browsers keep it if you reopen the tab). It isn’t an order. It doesn’t show allergens or tell your server about any allergy.

Saved for weak Wi-Fi

So the menu keeps working when the signal drops, the first time you open it your browser saves the menu’s design files and a short offline page (about 170 KB). After that, it saves a copy of each page and photo you open. The copies stay on your phone and are never sent to us. They are shown only when the connection fails, marked “Saved copy” with the date, and are not shown after 30 days. “Don’t save menus on this phone” removes everything saved and stops any more being saved on this phone. You can also clear this site’s data in your browser settings.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of any personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it or restrict how we use it. You can object at any time to anything we do on the basis of our legitimate interests. Because we keep no logs, your list never leaves your phone, and ratings are kept only as totals, we normally hold nothing we can link to you. Email hello@bennyeats.co.uk. We reply within one month.

Complaints

If you’re unhappy with how we handle your information, please tell us first at hello@bennyeats.co.uk. We’ll acknowledge your complaint within 30 days. You can also complain to the Information Commission (the ICO) at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
